Our last meeting on Thursday 9th March 2017 was our 81st Birthday Party when we were joined by several guests from the Hampshire WI, other Basingstoke area WIs and guests brought along by members, all of whom were warmly welcomed to the meeting. During the business part of the evening, Carolyn announced that North Waltham WI had won the Loddon (Basingstoke) Group WI Craft Competition! The competition was to provide 5 bookmarks created in different craft mediums – our entry comprised of cross-stitch (Carolyn B), quilting (Ann E), hand painted (Jan P), lace (Barbara P) and paper craft (Debbie W). Thank you to everyone who created a bookmark – they are all truly amazing. The prize is a cup which we will keep for a year, once it has been engraved with our WI. Following on from the business, the birthday celebrations began. We had a wonderful buffet supper – thank you to everyone who provided such a wonderful spread of food. This was enjoyed by all and several guests commented on how “yummy” the food was! And a birthday party wouldn’t be complete without a cake – and we all enjoyed a slice of the glazed fruit cake. Then it was time for the entertainment provided by Clive Howes, stage name Billy Clayton. He entertained us with tunes from the 60s and 70s accompanied by the audience who had been provided with various tambourines, maracas, bells, etc, as well as singing along. Many of us got up and danced the evening away, including a couple of congas around Dummer Village Hall.
Thursday 13th April 2017 – unfortunately our planned speaker has had to cancel. So we are having an “ad hoc” meeting. A few of us have been going through the WI photos and archive material and now this is sorted out, we thought it would be interesting for everyone to have a chance to look at these and see how things have changed, or not, over time. And if anyone has anything they would like to share with us, a recent trip, a poem, etc, then please do bring it along.
Thursday 17th May 2017 – another year has passed and it’s time for the voting on the WI Resolutions which this year are: Alleviating Loneliness and Plastic Soup - Keep Microplastic Fibres out of our Oceans. It is also our Annual Meeting when the committee members are elected for the following year. Following the business, we will have a chance to have a chat over a cup of tea/coffee.
Why not come along as a guest, a potential new member, or as someone who is interested in listening to a particular speaker? You will always get a cheery welcome from this fun-loving group! If anyone would like to come along or would like more details please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
