Following suggestions made in the questionnaire we issued last year, the Village Trust has bought 4 picnic tables for installation on Cuckoo Meadow. We plan to place 2 near the children's Play Area and 2 at the top end of the Meadow. We have also ordered a replacement for the Geoff Court Memorial Bench and will place this on the original concrete platform. We will install these items as soon as we can, for use during this summer.
However, unfortunately I have to note that there have been further instances of vandalism, or possible attempted theft, on the Rathbone Pavilion and its storage sheds. There have been reports of children climbing on the roofs of the new shed causing damage to the roofing felt and underlying roof boards, and on the main Pavilion roof leading to several missing and broken tiles. Additionally, the rear door to the main shed has been damaged and the lock destroyed - possibly as part of an attempted theft. Trustees have repaired what we can but we will again need to engage a professional roofer to repair the Pavilion. This mindless and destructive activity is very frustrating; as Trustees, we want to spend our time - and your money - in enhancing the meeting and recreational facilities of the Village, not having to divert it to patch up deliberate damage. These attacks have been reported to the police.
This is your Village and these are your facilities; the Trust is working on your behalf to try to improve them. We, as ordinary villagers, are voluntarily giving up our time to spend on improvements rather than repairing wanton damage. If anyone has information as to who is responsible, please alert the Trust or contact PCSO Andy Jones directly.
We have local and national elections coming over the next 2 months and the Rathbone Pavilion will be used as a voting centre. Accordingly, we are acquiring an improved disabled access ramp for the Pavilion. Additionally, the 2 disabled parking bays in the car park have been repainted; if you are visiting the Pavilion by car, please do respect the purpose of these bays and reserve their use for those that need them.
