Our planned speaker had to cancel for the meeting on 13th April 2017, so instead, after the business section of the meeting, members were given the chance to go ‘Down Memory Lane’ looking through some of the archive material and photos of past and recent years. There have been several members working on the archiving including Carolyn, Lesley, Ann, Linda C, Sally, Carol and Barbara. They have worked hard and long to sort and label photos to add to the latest photo album. There was also a photo album on display from 1983 and it was fascinating to identify current members as they had looked more than three decades ago. Wartime memories and subsequent photographic displays of wartime artefacts and clothing were also on view. We had plenty of time to chat and have tea, coffee and biscuits while we remembered past occasions and people.
We congratulated our very talented members who entered and won the competition between the Loddon group of WIs for the best homemade bookmarks. Five bookmarks had to be made in five different handicraft techniques. The members representing North Waltham WI were Carolyn Brown (cross stitch), Ann Evans (quilting), Barbara Purkiss (lace making), Jan Peterson (painting), Debbie Wilby (papercraft) and our reserve Christine Dollery (photography). Their bookmarks were superb! Congratulations were given to Barbara and Alan Purkiss who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at the end of March.
