WI - Feb 2021

Our last three meetings have taken place using Zoom – not everyone’s cup of tea, but we have had several members joining us and enjoying the following:

10th December 2020:

This was our Christmas meeting and 23 members and 1 guest were entertained by Victoria Stapleton on violin from Surrey and Paul Wright on keyboard from Steventon who performed several pieces of Christmas music – so wonderful that technology enabled us to have “live” entertainment.  This was followed by a singalong enjoyed by all members – and the beauty was that we were all on mute so could sing to our hearts content and not be heard – except maybe by unsuspecting neighbours!!

14th January 2021:

19 members were joined by Sam Durrani a stuntman who has performed in several films including Tarzan and Jason Bourne 5 and TV shows including The Crown (paparazzi on the back of a motorbike) and Luther.  Sam was a gymnast and kick boxer then a coach but always wanted to get into TV/films – he qualified in 2010 after passing six disciplines including gymnastics, scuba diving and rock climbing plus 60 days experience on TV shows.  His first stunt role was in a cops and robbers show based in China and his last film pre-lockdown was doubling for Stephen Graham in Venom 2 due out this year.  He shared videos of him performing various stunts both in practice and in films.

11th February 2021:

18 members were entertained by Faith Powell who has been on many quiz shows over the past 30+ years – it all started after the birth of her first child when she was instructed to rest and she became hooked on TV quiz shows.  She gave us a “behind the scenes” look at some of these including Going for Gold with Henry Kelly, Wipeout with Bob Monkhouse – she still has some of Bob’s cue cards - and Ready Steady Cook with Ainsley Harriott.  She asked us some of the questions that she had been asked on her many appearances.  In total she has appeared in 12 shows and won 6, pretty impressive!  Faith has been accepted to appear on The Chase, so keep an eye out for her in the future.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the government and NFWI restrictions and guidelines, our meetings for the foreseeable future will be held by Zoom.  We have some exciting speakers and entertainment lined up:

11th March 2021:

Birthday Party – our entertainment will be Wayne Trice, magician who has performed on Zoom to several WIs around the country during lockdown all to rave reviews.  As well as entertaining us he will also get us all to perform a magic trick – so you need to have handy a deck of cards, a few different sized elastic bands, a 2p and 10p coin and a piece of paper!!

8th April 2021:

Jo Hatton, Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF)

13th May 2021:

Annual Meeting and social
