Following recent inspections by the local council and two independent contractors, several defects have been identified in the multi-play unit in the Cuckoo Meadow playground. The severity of the issues means that the equipment no longer complies with current Health & Safety regulations. The Village Trust has therefore concluded that the equipment is beyond repair and has appointed a contractor to dismantle and remove the equipment as soon as possible.
The Trust appreciates that this is a much-used piece of equipment that the village's children will greatly miss and has therefore initiated research for a suitable replacement. The facilities on Cuckoo Meadow are not council funded but provided by the North Waltham Village Trust charity and managed by a team of trustees made up of village residents. Therefore, the replacement cost of the unit, approximately £20,000, will need to be funded through grants, donations and organised fundraising. The Trust is also considering the feasibility of this replacement being part of a more comprehensive playground refurbishment.
Please be assured that the Trustees will work closely with the community to ensure that the replacement is suitable and meets the village's needs.
