Covid-19 Core Group Update – June 2020

This group was set up on the 15th March 2020 to support our local residents as defined by the Parish Magazine core circulation area and to provide direct support to Old Barn Stores. The purpose of this group is to ensure the vulnerable and residents in self-isolation and shielding can continue to have their basic needs met, whether that is food, prescriptions or animals being cared for. We will also provide a chatting / social service for individuals to stay connected if they live on their own or if anyone needs to have someone to chat to. WI - June 2020

North Waltham WI is continuing to follow the guidance from Hampshire Confederation of WIs and at the current time we are unable to hold any meetings. The following is from HCFWI Chairman following their recent Events Meeting - “We are finding it very frustrating to have to wait before making definite bookings as, sadly, it could still be sometime before the restrictions are lifted on meetings. Pre-Booking System for Household Waste and Recycling Centres

A new system for residents to book slots at Household Waste Recycling Centres will begin on Monday 15th June 2020 and residents will need to make a booking to access the sites from this day onwards. The system is being set up in response to some of the severe traffic congestion seen at many HWRCs since they re-opened in May.      See full story...

Children's Sunflower Competition

Can your children grow the tallest sunflower or the sunflower with the biggest head before 1st September 2020? Please encourage them to get sowing seeds and watering plants to take part in this annual competition and help them to appreciate nature during the lockdown. Cuckoo Meadow

The tennis court is now open again for recreational use - but this must be in line with evolving Government directives. Please check with the Lawn Tennis Association website for up-to-date guidance. Someone has been bringing numerous large wooden fence posts onto Cuckoo Meadow - several with large protruding nails which present a significant safety hazard - and leaving them in the wooded area adjacent to the BMX track. Covid-19 Support Group - May 2020

First of all, we would like to thank everyone volunteering in the support group and/or helping out neighbours and friends with shopping, etc. We know that residents are so appreciative of the help they are receiving in these challenging times. We have now settled into a routine of many of us looking after our “regulars” with their shopping, medication collection, etc, with a few new requests being received and sent out as “shout-outs”.      See full story...

WI - May 2020

North Waltham WI is continuing to follow the guidance from Hampshire Confederation of WIs and at the current time we are unable to hold any meetings. As mentioned last time, we did look at the possibility of holding meetings via Zoom – I have been asking members when I see them, at the required social distancing, and there doesn’t seem to be the interest. Temporary Night Time Road Closures - A30 Hatchwarren

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have given notice of forthcoming road closures along the A30 Hatchwarren carriageway southbound, on the A30 south with the junction of Beggarwood Lane for approx. 1.6km, as directed by traffic signs. The closure is to allow resurfacing to new junction layout. The order comes into effect on 25th May 2020 for 6 months between the hours on 10.00pm - 5.00am. However, it is expected that the closure will be for 7 nights only during this time.      See full story...

HCC to reopen Household Waste Recycling Centres

Hampshire County Council has said that preparations are underway to safely reopen household waste recycling centres in the week commencing 11th May. This date is subject to further guidance expected from the government this week on travel to a household waste recycling centre during the COVID 19 outbreak. The vehicle registration scheme for access to the HWRC, which was due to start on 1st April 2020, has been postponed. However, the online vehicle registration system remains open, should residents wish to register. Please see the HCC website for further information.      See full story...
